This eclectic, #TellYourTruth movement consists of various band structures that are tailored for every performance .They are creative freedom fighters on a mission to make the impossible, commercial. Their music is loaded with influences from across the genres. From distorted moans of therock influenced guitars to the pakatuku of passionate percussive experience. From Zu’s, funk/jazz influenced writing to her husky Bjork meets Simphiwe vocals.

The message is Music. From its origins, through its nature to its
essence. This is a collective of life-lovers who come together to
do what they feel they were called to do. In each of us lives the
desire to brighten our own little corner through music.

Every musical gathering is a bid to keep our inner child alive, so
our primary mission is to have fun with the Music. However,
whilst letting go in this way, we still seek to spark the flame that
burns fiercely; fusing Life’s lessons with our own dreams of a
brighter future. For us Music represents life, nourishment, wealth
and opportunity.

New Years Eve with Ntombethongo

Celebrate the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 with the Jungle Monkeys .

Ntombethongo is performing live at Jungle Monkey to send us off into the new year.

As you might know already he is an amazing entertainer and a great Maskande musician.

The Shore Break:

“Ntombe Thongo

Ntombe Thongo is a musician and traditional healer, born and raised in Mthambalala village near the Ntafufu river mouth, about 25 kilometers from Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape. He became a sangoma (traditional healer) at the age of six, having undergone training which included dream interpretation, and the use of traditional plant medicines. “Seventy percent of the things which I sing about come from my dreams,” he explains. “Music and healing go together. I am healing those who listen to my music.”

Ntombe Thongo’s debut album Thokozile was released in 2012, and won the South African Traditional Music (SATMA) Award as best isiXhosa album of 2012. He was also nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) for best Maskandi album in 2013.

He plays traditional instruments including the Umrhubhe (known as mouth bow), uHadi, which is a bow attached to a calabash, and a 12 string guitar. He calls his music style “Transkhanda”, which he describes as a type of Traditional Trance music from the Transkei. Ntombethongo’s style is unique and the audience is totally taken in by his incredible dance moves, innocently beautiful voice, and crazy traditional beaded dress, with mini skirt and high heels.”

Live music at Jungle Monkey, The Lectric Monks

What a great start into the new year.

Live at Jungle Monkey all the way from Pretoria to our little coast town.

Pack your Bikinis and dancing shoes , its gonna be a hot one!

See more info below:

The Lectric Monks is a South African upbeat dance folk band formed in Pretoria, Gauteng in 2013. The group features a 7 piece ensemble with various instruments. The band’s name is based on a character from Douglas Adam’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, a being from a planet very far from the Earth, coincidentally humanoid, designed to believe anything. Drawing from roots rock, folk, classical, blues, indie, jazz and psychedelic music, the band’s image and sound evoke a nostalgic blend of music of the past with today’s modern styles, creating an upbeat dance experience for all.

Many fans describe the music as “a new kind of old stuff”

The group’s first show was played November 1, 2013 at Rafters Stage, Pretoria opening for Die Heuwels Fantasties.
The Lectric Monks started out as a two roommates (Francois van der Merwe and Gareth Peacock) sitting on a living room sofa, improvising lyrics with nothing but a Ukulele and a passionate love for music. They started jamming as The Lectric Monks since 2013 officially, once they had recruited lead guitarist, Henk Oosthuizen, violinist, Robyn Thomas and percussion and vocalist, Liza van der Walt. The 5-piece changed to a 7-piece when the band called on the drumming skills of Martin Raath and Michael Thomas on bass and they continued to gig where ever music needed to be heard.

An evening with Tony Cox live at Jungle Monkey

He is back to perform in South Africa and what an honour to have im Port Saint Johns at Jungle Monkey.

What a guitar pro, to good for words and not to be missed!!!

Entrance is R150 including supper.

Book ahead at Jungle Monkey Backpackers.

Cox will be touring with a difference this December and into January. The multiple award winning guitarist will make up three quarters of his itinerary with concerts given in people’s homes. This is Cox’s preferred medium for performance. His shows, always full of his trademark dry humour, mixed into a cocktail of breathtaking guitar skills and thought provoking songs, have graced the world’s finest stages, yet he actually prefers the warmth, friendliness and all round normality of home concerts.

While on tour Cox will be offering 3hr private or group guitar workshops in whatever town he performs in. Write directly to Tony at guitarplayer@netactive.co.za if you wish to take advantage of having a master guitarist in your midst. Cost is R950 for a private lesson and R850 for groups.

The journey will see Cox performing in homes from Cape Town to Mocambique then down through Swaziland, KZN and finally home along the East Coast.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear a world-class entertainer up close and personal.
